One day, while sleeping at school, he meets Ritsuka Uenoyama, who gives him a little push because Mafuyu has broken his guitar's strings by fraying them. When Mafuyu realizes Uenoyama understands music, he goes after him, saying, "Brother, fix this and teach me how to play." Uenoyama initially throws a tantrum but then relents and takes him to his band practice, which also includes bassist Haruki and drummer Akihiko. The real twist comes when Uenoyama hears Mafuyu's voice—it's so beautiful and poignant that Uenoyama becomes obsessed with making him his lead singer. Mafuyu hesitates at first, but after meeting his old friends, he joins the band. Now Mafuyu not only has to learn to play the guitar, but also has to get rid of the old pain and secrets due to which he got this guitar.
